Brief introduction of nodular cast iron

Nodular cast iron is a kind of high strength cast iron material developed in the fifty "s in twentieth Century. Its comprehensive performance is close to that of steel.Based on its excellent performance, it has been successfully used in the casting of some parts with complex strength, toughness and wear resistance.Nodular cast iron has been rapidly developed as a very wide range of cast iron.

Nodular graphite cast iron is obtained by the ball and inoculation process. It can improve the mechanical properties of the cast iron, especially improve the ductility and toughness.

Cast iron is containing carbon content greater than 2.11 percent of iron carbon alloy, produced by high temperature melting and casting industrial pig iron, scrap steel, iron, steel and alloy material. Except for Fe, containing and other cast iron carbon graphite morphology of the precipitated, if the precipitation of graphite is a sheet of iron called grey cast iron, flocculent iron called white cast iron , and spherical cast iron is called nodular cast iron.

Properties of gray cast iron

The mechanical properties of gray cast iron are related to the microstructure of matrix and graphite.

Green Sand Casting Process

These expendable molds used to make the mold's shape in green sand casting process are made of wet sands, which is not a type of green color sand, but a mixture in the sense that it is used in a wet state, akin to green wood. The wet sands usually contains:
silica sand , chromite sand, zircon sand, olivine, staurolite, or graphite;
clay;
water;
inert sludge;
Anthracite.

In green sand casting process, the sands for non-ferrous metals does not use coal additives, because the CO created is not effective to prevent oxidation. Green sand for aluminum typically uses olivine sand, which is a mixture of the minerals forsterite and fayalite. Furthermore, the choice of sand can make a difference on the temperature that the metal is poured.

Shell Molding Process

Introduction:

Shell molding is similar to sand casting, but there is something different. In the process of sand casting, the molding cavity is a flask filled with sand, but in that of shell molding process, the molding cavity is formed by a hardened "shell" of sand instead. The sand used in shell molding process is finer than that in sand casting process, and it is mixed with a resin so that it can be heated by the pattern and hardened into a shell around the pattern.
